History Of Mauritius Series Part 4

So there I was thinking after the cold weather in JHB lately that I would rather be in Mauritius....... Ain't that the truth? For those interested we have just launched the most unreal specials for the school holidays in June & July, incredible stuff & please have a look.

Our blog on the history of Mauritius Continues and I thought that I would copy & paste a paragraph - "When the French East India Company was wound up, and their monopoly broken, private enterprise became the fashion. Everyone was trying to make profits. In 1785 the Ile de France was declared the seat of government of all French possessions east of the Cape. A French nobleman, Vicomte de Souillac was made governor (1779-1787) bringing an era of extravagance to the colony. Port Louis became renowned for its bright social life with dancing parties for the young and the old, duelling, gambling, drinking and hunting. At the same time, public affairs were neglected; fraud, corruption and dishonesty were common-place and land speculation and scandals were rife".

Now here I was thinking that if you changed a few dates, names & places that we could very well be talking about a place a lot closer to home! Sorry I lie, in fact about home. So I thought that I would just change a few words & this is what I came up with.

When the Apartheid Government was wound up, and their monopoly broken, Tendtrepeneurs became the fashion. Everyone was trying to make profits. In 1994 the Biggest Political party was declared as the holders of the New Rainbow Nation. A Zulu Nobleman was made governor bringing an era of extravagance to the Country. JHB, DBN, CPT became renowned for its bright social life with dancing parties for the young and the old, duelling, gambling, drinking and hunting. At the same time, public affairs were neglected; fraud, corruption and dishonesty were common-place and land speculation and scandals were rife.

So my question really is, "Is it not strange how History repeats itself?" Have a great week everyone, stay warm & if you are looking for something to do in the school holidays, then look no further ..........
