First Night Blues!
So we had just recovered from the missing passport & where on our way to Mauritius. We were ready for a blast.
We arrived to the most magnificent sunset at Paradis, the check in procedure as always was first class & we were off to the beach party. The musical trio were getting everyone fired up and we were just starting to enjoy ourselves when I had a little accident! The wind had picked up and a glass flew off the beach bar, in trying to protect myself I lifted my left hand & felt an excruciating pain in my left index finger. Clearly the holiday had not got off to the desired start.
My finger badly cut, off I went to the infirmary. The feeling is not great when the nurse on duty goes aaaahhhhhhhh that needs to get sorted out at the clinic. My first night was quickly turning into a bit of a disaster. A taxi was hailed & off my wife & I and Brenda from guest relations went to the Darne clinic in Floreal. An hour later we arrived and met up with Dr Gopal a local orthopaedic surgeon. He did a few tests & was quick to tell me that I needed to overnight at the clinic as I needed an operation first thing in the morning!
The next morning at 05h00 I was prepped & taken to the operating theatre, Dr Gopal was busy for 1,5 hours & found that not only had I lacerated the nerve but also the tendons in my finger, the op was bigger than he had anticipated. Clearly the holiday had not got off to the most auspicious start, surely it could only get better from here on in?
Note to self, thank goodness for travel insurance. Never leave home without it........... Next week the journey continues with Honest Jonny now being called sling man!
