Magical Wedding at Trou Aux Biches

When considering a wedding venue, we often think of a place nearby our family and friends. We go from wedding venue to wedding venue trying to picture ourselves there with all the frazzles and dazzles that comes with it, but to us they all seemed so similar, nothing really warmed our hearts so that is why we chose Mauritius. Make no mistake it wasn't an eloping attempt, we wanted our friends and family there, but we didn't choose the venue and destination for them, as is so often the case, we chose it for us. It was our day and those who wanted to come and celebrate with us, were of course most welcome.

Choosing Trou Aux Biches hotel was easy; the hotel is beautifully situated on the Northern Coast of Mauritius, not to far from bustling Grand Baie. As you walk into the hotel, you feel like you have stepped into the Garden of Eden, Trou Aux Biches is very natural; the hotel has been built in and amongst the lush tropical gardens instead of the gardens being planted around it. With this and the untouched soft sand beach it was definitely the place to give our hearts to each other.

Upon arrival at the hotel, we were warmly greeted by the hotel management, and then introduced to the wedding event co- coordinators; Fatima and Christina. Both these ladies were terrific, positive and unbelievably helpful, it was almost as if they were planning their own weddings. We arrived on the Sunday; our wedding was on the Thursday and by the Monday afternoon plans were all in motion. Every staff member from the Florist to the F & B Manager were very efficient and catered to our every need.

Our Wedding was to commence at 4pm, our guests arrived and were escorted to the poolside for mock tails, the bridal party had a room for themselves to get ready in and the Groom and his best men had the same.

The setting for the wedding was perfectly located on the beach in a clearing underneath gorgeous huge palm trees. A picturesque wrought iron arch magnificently clothed in tropical flowers was the focal point and next to that was the registry table and ministers stand.

No sooner had the guests sat down than they had to rise again to welcome the bridal party. A local Mauritian three-piece band arrived at my room to lead us across the hotel grounds to the beach. It was a great icebreaker and suitably original.

The ceremony took place with the Indian Ocean sparkling in the background like champagne bubbles in the sunlight. After the ceremony, the photographer worked his magic; he was organised and experienced which makes all the difference when you've smiled your 94th smile and your lips are sticking to your teeth.

The hotel then arranged a tree planting ceremony in honour of our marriage, they had pre-dug the hole and together we planted and watered a baby palm tree, which we hope to see again one day, tall and strong.

Whilst we were taking stunning photographs with the sunset as our canvas, the guests wondered down the beach to the Seaside Bar, where cocktails and snacks awaited them. The setting was undeniably magnificent. The hotel staff certainly surprised us all the time, each and everything they did was beyond our expectations. When the band played their final song and the last speech was said, a private dining area was set up just for us and the most delicious dinner was served. Even though our reception was officially not until the next day, our guests were so enjoying the night that they gathered at the pool bar for more champagne.

Overall there was absolutely nothing to fault; everyone had such an amazing time. It was truly a dream come true for both of us. The staff all treat you like you are a member of their own family, and although weddings bring with them an element of stress, we had the most relaxing week because we were, simply put, taken care of whole heartedly.

We can't wait to go back one day to the new and improved Trou Aux Biches, to see our palm tree and to re-visit amazing memories.
