Laughter the best Medicine
So there I was slingman, nothing really to do during the day with a plaster cast on the arm other than relax and have a few cocktails & beers. The night became my ally as I was then on an equal footing with my compadres travelling with me. The second night after arriving back from the clinic with hand in cast, we had the most stunning meal at the Blue Marlin Restaurant at Paradis. We were all high on life & just enjoying the moment, I told the crew that I would go & check the disco out and see if it was a worthwhile exercise for all of us to go & dance the night away.
I went in and looked around, there were a few youngsters having a good time & the music was really good. I thought to myself that our crew could have a good time in there. This is where the biggest laugh of my holiday happened. Let me explain the scene, whilst I used to be a bull of a man I am now 40 years old, receding hairline (my kids call me baldilocks!), a bit of middle aged spread & my hand in a plaster cast & in a sling. Basically a Disco is probably the last place that I should be!!!! When I walked out I walked slap bang into a group of British teenagers obviously looking for the party! On seeing me one of them remarked, "Oh no, look what's coming out of there!". I must say that even I had to laugh, clearly my teenage chick pulling days are a thing of the past.
As a father of two nearing teenager status, I suppose that this was an inevitable step. My ego dented I returned to go & have a blast with people my own age at the Bar. I felt very comfortable & in my own space there.
Occasionally it is good to take a step back and have a good laugh at yourself, laughter seriously is the best medicine..........
Where better to do this, than in the Island paradise that is Mauritius. Stay tuned for more episodes from the intrepid Honest Jonny.........................
